Social Media Has Become An Unhealthy Addiction For Billions

2nd Peter 2:19, “While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.”

I was surprised today when I read these disturbing statistics. I recently wrote an article titled, “Facebook Is An Unhealthy Addiction For Millions.” As I often do, I read my own articles. But when I read the article I realized that millions was probably too low, so I went to check. I was shocked to learn that 3.07 billion people use Facebook every month worldwide (monthly active users), and about 2.11 billion use it every day (daily active users). That means 36% of the earth's 8.3 billion population uses Facebook (now Meta). And a whopping 70% of the planet are active on social media. Goodnight in the morning!

Since it was adversely affecting me on a daily basis and hindering my ministry work, I decided this year to withdraw considerably from social media. On August 1st, 2026, I abandoned my Facebook account. At first I deleted the account, but after thinking about it and doing some reading, for the foreseeable future I just decided to log out. Once deleted, Facebook gives you 30 days to reconsider. So I reactivated the account, but am not using it anymore.

Facebook (Meta) has some serious issues with sexual exploitation of children, and Mark Zuckerberg has no idea how to fix it, so he is accusing users of committing sexual crimes. You couldn't make this crazy stuff up! I will never use Facebook again until they get their house in order. I am not holding my breath. And even if they do fix their broken platform, I have painfully learned that avoided social media altogether is a recipe to have a better day.
